Murder Editorial Review
Tana French's "The Witch Elm" is a departure from her usual Dublin murder squad novels. It has a lot of character build-up but the plot feels all over the place. The writing is good but it can be slow, with the reader almost halfway through the book before the plot becomes evident. The ending is powerful, albeit logical, but it might leave readers scratching their heads. The Ivy Cottage takes on a role in the life of the characters, speaking volumes about them and the events occurring within its walls. Overall, it's not a straight-up mystery but an elaborate read, filled with meandering thought processes and complex descriptions.
