Davis Instruments Hardware #2205 Editorial Review
The Davis Tiller Tamer is a simple but effective device for sailors, according to customer reviews. It attaches permanently to the tiller using two screws, but it can be modified to be clamped or zip tied to the tiller for easier removal. The device comes with the screws and the 1/4 inch line needed to operate it, but it does not come with cam cleats. The Tiller Tamer allows sailors to lock the tiller in position hands-free, which is convenient for taking breaks, and it can also be used to secure the tiller/rudder in a stationary position while in port. However, customers noted that the line wears out and breaks easily, especially when exposed to jerking motion from other boats, and they recommend using it only for stationary periods of less than a few hours. Overall, the Davis Tiller Tamer is a great budget option for sailors looking for a hands-free tiller lock.
