What is Games Workshop Citadel Bombe sous-couche - Aérosol Mechanicus Standard Grey?

The Games Workshop Citadel Bombe sous-couche - Aérosol Mechanicus Standard Grey is a spray primer specifically designed for miniature painters. It provides an even grey base coat that enhances the colors of your paints and works exceptionally well with Citadel paints. This primer is ideal for preparing plastic, resin, or metal miniatures, ensuring that your paint adheres correctly and evenly. Whether you’re starting a new army or just refreshing an old one, using a quality primer like this is crucial for achieving professional-looking results.

How do you use the Citadel Bombe sous-couche?

To use the Citadel Bombe sous-couche, shake the can vigorously to mix the contents thoroughly. Hold the can approximately 30 cm (12 inches) away from your miniature and spray in light, even coats. Ensure you're working in a well-ventilated area, and consider using a spray booth or outdoors to avoid inhaling fumes. This primer dries quickly, providing a strong foundation for subsequent layers of paint, making your painting process smoother and more efficient.

Is the Mechanicus Standard Grey color suitable for all types of miniatures?

Yes, Mechanicus Standard Grey is a versatile color suitable for a wide array of miniatures, including those from sci-fi, fantasy, and tabletop games. The neutral grey shade works effectively under bright colors and is often used for warhammer and other gaming miniatures, providing an excellent foundation for various paint techniques. Its uniform surface allows for detailed painting, and it aids in highlighting and shading when using additional colors.

Can I use the Citadel Bombe sous-couche on different materials?

The Citadel Bombe sous-couche is designed to work on various materials, including plastic, resin, and metal. Each type of material benefits from the spray primer, ensuring that paints adhere appropriately and uniformly. For best results, make sure the surface is clean and free of dust or grease. This versatility makes it a perfect choice for hobbyists working with diverse miniatures across different gaming genres.

How many miniatures can be primed with one can of Aérosol Mechanicus Standard Grey?

The coverage of a single can of Aérosol Mechanicus Standard Grey allows you to prime a substantial number of miniatures, typically up to 40-50 standard-sized models. Coverage can vary based on the size and details of the miniatures, so multiple thin coats may be necessary to achieve an even finish. Spraying in thin layers not only conserves your product but also helps prevent clogging the details of the miniatures.

What are some benefits of using spray primer over brush-on primer?

Using a spray primer like the Citadel Bombe sous-couche offers several advantages over brush-on products. First, it provides a smooth, even layer without brush strokes, enhancing the final paint job. Second, spray primers can cover hard-to-reach areas and intricate details effectively. Finally, the speed of application is often quicker with sprays, allowing you to cover more miniatures in less time, especially beneficial for large projects or armies.

How should I store the Citadel Bombe sous-couche?

To maintain the quality of your Citadel Bombe sous-couche, store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. It's essential to keep the can upright and avoid any altitude changes that may affect pressure. Proper storage extends its usability, ensuring that you get the best performance when you're ready to start your painting project, especially over longer periods of inactivity.

What techniques can I use after priming my miniatures with this spray?

After priming your miniatures with Mechanicus Standard Grey, you can use various techniques to enhance your paint job. Notable methods include base coating, layering, dry brushing, and wash application – each adding depth and detail to your models. This primer is an excellent base for color blends and shading, making it easier to achieve the desired visual effects and highlight intricate details of your miniatures.

Citadel Paints 9920999905006 Editorial Review

Games Workshop Citadel Bombe Sous-couche - Aerosol Mechanicus Standard Grey is a versatile spray primer ideal for model painting. Users appreciate its smooth application and reliability compared to other brands, with no jamming issues reported, even after covering over 100 models. However, some customers raised concerns about color discrepancies, noting that the spray produces a greenish-grey compared to the expected blue-grey from the paint pot. Despite quality issues mentioned in reviews, many still prefer this product for its full coverage and ease of use, particularly for indoor projects. Its portable design makes it easy to handle during painting.
