**** Readers have received Susan Johnson's classic novel with a blend of admiration and critique, showcasing the dual nature of her storytelling prowess. Many fans hail Johnson as a master of crafting captivating heroes, with accolades praising her romantic narratives as both decadent and engaging. Reviews often highlight her ability to transport readers back to the 1890s, where she skillfully combines adventure and romance, creating a tale that captivates and entices them to keep turning the pages. The characters, particularly the heroes, are deemed memorable, contributing to the novel's standing among her best works, along with titles such as "Pure Sin" and "Silver Flame". However, the reception is not without its reservations. Some readers voice Constructive criticism regarding the portrayal of characters, noting that certain elements feel unrealistic or exaggerated. The balance between romance and storyline is remarked upon, with several experiencing a disconnect due to the abundance of explicit content. While the romantic and adventurous elements are appreciated, the concern for credibility of character actions and plot progression resonated with some audiences, suggesting a desire for deeper character development. Additionally, comments about the cover art indicate that while the story holds its ground, the presentation falls short, detracting from an otherwise strong narrative. Overall, Susan Johnson's work continues to evoke passion and strong sentiments among readers, marking it as a compelling choice for those who appreciate rich storytelling, although some aspects may not resonate with every reader. **
