Westerns Editorial Review
Stagecoach is a 1939 Western film directed by John Ford and starring John Wayne, Claire Trevor, Thomas Mitchell, and John Carradine. The story follows seven passengers aboard a stagecoach traveling to Lordsburg, New Mexico, through dangerous Apache territory. Gradually, the passengers drop their biases towards each other and learn the value of mutual aid and cooperation in emergencies. The prisoners see the Prostitute in a better light and glimpses a new aspect of her character. The movie is Considered a "microcosm of society," as it shows that unity of individuals is necessary for friendliness, mutual aid, and cooperation to exist, not diversity of groups. The value of the individual human being is essential to an untroubled, unified society. Reviewers had mixed opinions on the picture quality with some mentioning that it was terrible and the others mentioning pretty good quality picture for an old film. There were positive reviews about the story-line and the characters in the movie. However, some mentioned that the viewers had to like old movies to appreciate it.
