Shadows of Self : A Mistborn Novel

Shadows of Self, the second book in the Mistborn series, delivers on the promise of a grander storyline and expands on the world and characters introduced in Alloy of Law. Brandon Sanderson once again proves his ability to create a believable world, emotionally engaging characters, and a well-written plot. The complex mystery keeps readers guessing until the end and the introduction of new story elements adds depth to the series. The characters, particularly Wax, Wayne, and Marasi, are well-developed and their different abilities and personalities make for a fun and powerful team. The addition of more mythology in this book makes readers want to explore the original Mistborn trilogy. Sanderson's magic systems of Allomancy and Feruchemy continue to be fascinating and the introduction of a third type of metal magic adds to the intrigue. One minor drawback is that one of the major unresolved plot points from the first book is not addressed in this installment, leaving readers to expect it to be resolved in the next book. Overall, Shadows of Self is a fantastic read that expands on the Mistborn world and keeps readers engaged with its complex mystery and well-developed characters.
