Action & Adventure Editorial Review

13 Assassins is an action-packed movie that tells the story of a group of samurai warriors who embark on a suicide mission to take down an evil lord. The movie does a fine job of setting up the evil and establishing the desperation of the mission. However, it fails to create a likable group of protagonists, which deflates the sense of dread you're supposed to have in the final act. The fight scenes are also underwhelming and lack the one-on-one duels that make samurai fights shine. Despite these flaws, the movie is a fine popcorn flick that can entertain viewers who enjoy the genre.
