The Outliers by Kimberly McCreight is a young adult thriller about Wylie, a girl who embarks on a dangerous mission to rescue her friend Cassie after she goes missing. The plot takes a sharp turn with a sci-fi twist that some readers find nonsensical and a letdown. The writing, however, is fast-paced and compelling, with an interesting premise. While some readers enjoyed the book, others found it to be a setup for the following books in the trilogy and felt that the story was split into parts to maximize profit.
