What is AMACO Rub n Buff Wax Metallic Finish used for?

AMACO Rub n Buff Wax Metallic Finish is primarily used for enhancing and finishing various surfaces, particularly in furniture, antiquing projects, and restoration tasks. This versatile gilding wax allows users to add a beautiful metallic shine with its rich Spanish Copper hue. It's perfect for revitalizing old furniture, creating artistic effects on crafts, or giving new items a vintage flair. Whether you're a DIY enthusiast or a professional artisan, this product facilitates an easy application to achieve stunning results.

How do I apply Rub n Buff Wax Metallic Finish?

Applying AMACO Rub n Buff is simple and straightforward. Use a clean cloth, your fingertip, or a brush to apply a small amount of the wax to the desired area. Rub it in gently, allowing it to bond with the surface. For best results, work in small sections and buff it out to achieve a smooth sheen. This method is effective for detailing furniture or artwork, giving a high-end look to your projects without extensive preparation.

Is Rub n Buff safe for indoor use?

Yes, AMACO Rub n Buff is safe for indoor use, making it an ideal choice for home decor projects. Its formulation is non-toxic, ensuring that it won't release harmful fumes once applied. As you use it on various surfaces in your home, such as furniture or decor accents, you can enjoy transforming your space without worrying about unpleasant odors or safety concerns.

Can Rub n Buff be used on fabric?

While AMACO Rub n Buff is primarily designed for hard surfaces like wood, metal, and plaster, it can also be used on fabric with caution. When using it on fabric, test a small inconspicuous area first to ensure it adheres properly and does not alter the fabric's texture. This approach allows for creative applications in projects where you might want to add a metallic touch to upholstery or decorative items.

How do I clean up after using Rub n Buff?

Cleanup after using AMACO Rub n Buff is quite straightforward. Since the product is oil-based, you can remove any excess wax from tools or surfaces using mineral spirits or a suitable solvent. Make sure to work in a well-ventilated area during the cleanup process to avoid inhalation hazards. This ensures that your workspace remains tidy and free from unwanted residue that could affect future projects.

Can I use Rub n Buff for outdoor projects?

AMACO Rub n Buff is not specifically designed for outdoor use. While the metallic finish can withstand some exposure, it may not hold up well against moisture and direct sunlight over time. For projects like garden decor or outdoor furniture, it's advisable to use a product specifically created for outdoor applications to ensure longevity and durability in various weather conditions.

How long does it take for Rub n Buff to dry?

AMACO Rub n Buff dries relatively quickly, allowing you to achieve a finished look in a short time. Typically, it sets within minutes, but for optimal results, you may want to wait a few hours before heavy handling or applying additional layers. This rapid drying time makes it convenient for quick projects or touch-ups, ensuring you can continue creating without prolonged interruptions.

Can Rub n Buff be polished after it dries?

Yes, once AMACO Rub n Buff dries, you can further enhance its sheen by gently polishing the area with a soft cloth. This additional step can help bring out the luster in the metallic finish. Whether you're working on furniture, art projects, or crafts, polishing post-application can elevate the quality of your finish, giving it a professional look.

What surfaces can I use AMACO Rub n Buff on?

AMACO Rub n Buff can be successfully applied to a variety of surfaces including wood, metal, plaster, and even some ceramics. This versatility makes it a favored choice among crafters and furniture restorers. AMACO Paint Finishes Editorial Review

The AMACO Rub n Buff Wax Metallic Finish in Spanish Copper is a versatile gilding wax that is perfect for finishing furniture, antiquing, and restoration. It has a copper color and is not similar to oil rubbed bronze. The product works best on metal and may not adhere well to newly etched glass. There is no information about larger sizes available. It is mainly recommended for indoor projects and may not hold up well on outdoor tables. It can be used to restore an oil rubbed sink, but thin layers should be applied over time for better results. The product has a waxy/cream consistency and works better on wood than metal. Metallic colors show up best on a satin black surface.
