- Panofsky'nin 1927 tarihli bu küçük kitabı, beklenmedik etkilere yol açan o büyük kitaplardan biri: Son yüzyılda perspektif üzerine yapılmış bütün sanat tarihi ve felsefe tartışmalarına damgasını vurdu, modern düşünce tarihinin büyük eserlerinden biri olarak klasikleşti. Kitap bu etkisini, yazarının özgün sanat tarihi yönteminin erken dönemini en iyi biçimde sergileyen bir örnek olmasına ve sanat tarihi çalışmalarının alışıldık kapsamıyla sınırlı kalmayıp, bilgi ve kültürel değişim kuramlarındaki daha geniş çaplı gelişmelerin bağlamına yerleşmesine borçlu.
