Kahraman hayatını yoksulluk ve aşağılanmayı tanıdığı çocukluk yıllarından başlayarak, kronolojik olmayan bir dizi iç monologla anlatır. Ayakta kalmak için verdiği sürekli ve sert mücadele onu kararlı, kendine güvenen bir kadın yapmış ama içini bütün hayatına öldürücü bir zehir gibi bulaşan bir hınçla doldurmuştur.
