- Whether there is a philosophical tradition in Islamic civilization is one of the most interesting and controversial issues. Because rather than giving a positive or negative answer to this question, it is important on what grounds the answer will be based. On the other hand, discussing the historical and distinctive features of such a tradition will also allow to determine its place and value within universal philosophy. In this work titled On Islamic Philosophy, Ahmet Arslan addresses the problems around this very center. Revealing the determination of the understanding of theology, which arises from the dynamics of Islam itself and has historically preceded philosophical sciences; The nature of the relationship established between Greek style philosophy and Islamic philosophy; or the contributions of different approaches in the historical course and the place they hold constitute the main moments of the discussion in question. In addition to evaluating the contributions of philosophers such as Kindi, Farabi, Ibn Sina, Ibn Rushd and Gazzali, the book also considers the theses of approaches such as Mu'tazila and Ash'ariism, which is important in terms of revealing the different dimensions in tradition and the richness of understanding.
