- Ömer Hayyam: doğum ve ölüm tarihleri çeşitli kaynaklara göre farklılık gösterse de, 11. yüzyılın ortalarında doğduğu, 12. yüzyılın ilk çeyreği civarında öldüğü kabul edilen İranlı şair, felsefeci ve bilim adamı. Günümüzde ise, daha çok rubai türünün yaratıcısı olarak kabul gören Hayyam'ın dörtlükleri, Türkçe'ye Yahya Kemal ve Abdülbaki Gölpınarlı başta olmak üzere pek çok kez çevrildi. Sabahattin Eyüboğlu'nun çevirisi de, bunlar arasında en sevilenlerinden biri.Sabahattin Eyüboğlu (1908-1973), Hasan Ali Yücel'in kurduğu Tercüme Bürosu'nun başkan yardımcısı ve Cumhuriyet döneminin en önemli kültür insanlarından biriydi.
