StarTech PEXHDCAP4K Editorial Review
The StarTech.com USB 3.0 HDMI Video Capture Device, also known as the 4K30-HDMI-CAPTURE, offers a reliable way to capture and record high-quality video footage. With its USB 3.0 connectivity, it provides fast data transfer rates and ensures smooth and lag-free recording. One of the standout features of this device is its compatibility with both USB-A and USB-C ports, as well as Thunderbolt 3 ports. This makes it versatile and suitable for use with a wide range of devices, including laptops and desktop computers running Windows or Mac operating systems. The included video capture software, called StreamCatcher, is simple to use and offers various settings for recording quality, including MP4, TS, FLV, AVI file types, and CBR, VBR, or Lossless compression. Users can choose between different resolutions and frame rates, with the device displaying the capture source resolution and frame rate. The device also supports DirectShow, allowing it to be recognized and utilized by video streaming software that supports this feature. This means that users can potentially use this device for live streaming purposes, as confirmed by a customer who successfully connected two devices for live streaming. The device comes with a USB 3.0 cable for data transfer, and the input is HDMI or DVI. The output is through the USB 3.0 cable, which may be connected to a computer or other compatible device. Additionally, the device supports audio recording through RCA inputs or through a 3.5mm jack, offering flexibility in capturing both video and audio. In terms of warranty, one user confirmed that the device worked seamlessly with Windows 10, and the listed operating system compatibility includes Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 8.1 (32/64-bit) versions.
